Epic Simile

The events flowed like a stream, springing up around the land every few years. The people of the land took no mind, simply observing the events. But as the stream flowed, it became larger. The events became more and more frequent. The people of the land attempted to predict the next event, but you cannot find a particular drop of water in a rushing stream. Few times, the people managed to stop an event, but not many. The stream flowed on, steadily growing larger as the decades passed. Soon, it would become to large for the land to hold, and the events would wipe out the people of the land.
