The Last March of the Ents. That's what it is called. They marched against Isengard, knowing this would most likely be their last act, but they did so, to create a better place for people who come after. When Theoden, Aragorn, and the others rode out near the end of the battle for Helm's Deep, thy knew what they were riding into. They knew the likelihood of their deaths, but they prepared for a last stand, ready to die for Rohan's people. Aragorn wasn't even required to do so; they weren't his people. But he was ready to die for them. Boromir's act was the greatest, I believe. He fought the orcs, hopelessly outnumbered, knowing he would most likely die. He sacrificed himself in an attempt to save Merry and Pippin.
What is courage? Courage is bravery, but there's more to it. Courage is selflessness, knowing you could die for someone else, but still trying. That is courage.
