Dragon Slaying Poem/Story

(This poem is in Couplet (closed and run on) form)

This dreaded worm that all men feared
Was sleeping in his mountain
Look down and see his slumb'ring form
A terror not yet woken

But then a foolish man crept in
Stole he a golden chalice
Now woken, loud the dragon roared
Like fire glowed his malice

From his mountain the dread beast flew
And set the world on fire
And in the ruins warriors lay
Upon their burning pyres

But one young man took up his sword
And met the beast head on
Through the night they bit and bled
Till rosy-fingered dawn

And with the sun he raised his blade
And smote the dragon down
To his knees the hero fell
Having avenged his town

Wounded and weary
The young man slept
As through his heart
Death's fingers crept
